&nbsp; While a little different from other projects, I thought it important to include these photos in my portfolio. This was the first “project” I’ve done not at the prompt of a professor or without another peer to collaborate with. These photos were taken during a month-long solo trip to Iceland and developed in a DIY darkroom in a closet at my house back home in Kentucky. &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;I had three main goals in mind for these photos. One, to document the things I saw in Iceland during my first trip outside of the US. Second, to create a contradiction: Iceland is the most peaceful country in the world but the photos I took are intentionally in black and white, they give off a lonely and slightly ominous mood. The country itself is a contradiction; no military, homeless, and generally happy people but the climate is harsh, mysterious, and the people live in a 24 hour darkness 3 months of the year. Last, to learn. I learnt a lot about myself exploring the country alone for a month but practically, I wanted to learn to develop my own photos. Once I got back to Kentucky I first had to bulid my DIY darkroom and become familiar with the chemicals, then I was constantly experimenting with times and tempertaures and scanning methods to make the best of my fragile film strips.&nbsp; https://anniededas.online/REALTIME_A-V Wed, 11 Oct 2023 01:49:41 +0000 anniededas https://anniededas.online/REALTIME_A-V REALTIME_AV 2022 Video Synthesis Analog Methods/ TouchDesigner &nbsp; &nbsp; The performance above was done with 2 other peers for our final project in an AV class. The concept we wanted to convey was a “portal to another world” we took inspiration from acid techno and european rave visuals to create this immersive performance. The three of us split up the live performance into elements: one person on sound design, one on the background visuals, and my role on the main audio-reactive visual in the foreground made with TouchDesigner and controled with a MIDI device for the performance.&nbsp; PROJECT I - dark angel&nbsp; &nbsp;The introductory project to this class, I primarily used Signal Culture applications (which mimic analog video mixing) connected to a MIDI controller to create the visuals. I decided to use a song rather than mix my own audio for the first project so I could focus on the concept: harsh lines with high contrast using only the webcam on my Macbook as the base video feed.PROJECT II - teal monday&nbsp; &nbsp;For this project, I wanted to work with bright colors and was inspired by 80s electronic dance music (specifically New Order’s Blue Monday). My goal was to make something flashy and fun that would capture even my 9 year old nephew’s attention. To do this I ran found footage through multiple different mixers and recorded the end feed. PROJECT III - rain shower&nbsp; &nbsp;Inspired by glitch art and the hotel room I was living in at the time my goal for this project was to create a bright - but unsettlinng piece of video art. For this project I made one patch and Max to control the audio to uncomfortable octaves and another using Jitter to sync the gitching of the video feed to the screech of the audio. semester long independent study in collaboration with a peer. During the development of this project I learned a lot, on the more pratical side we got very familar with the need to delgate work between us very quickly, creatively this was one of my first times being left to my own devices with Adobe software and being free to explore my own interests within digital (and analog) media.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;The divison of work firstly between the two of us, and secondly as a schedule for us to follow through the entire duration of the semester was one of the most important parts of this project. We started by indentifying the main theme of the project:&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; “This zine was made in reverence for the Indigenous Knowledge, &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; which desires to be known. May this work inspire you to gain &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; deeper understanding of connection to the medicinal nature of &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; things.” &nbsp;&nbsp; From here we took stock of what we needed to accomplish this goal, together we did reserach on different kinds of herbs and what they were used for in Indigenous cultures, chose which ones to highlight and created a map of the zine from there. We also thought a lot about what design elements to include - typography, analog photographs, illustrations, text, and collages - were used to convey our message. Sometimes, like with the Snubnose Revolver I model the pieces from life or use concept art as a reference, this evolved to creating my own assests based on one reference image - allowing me to be more creative in my work.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Being more creative helped me find my own “style” of digital art centering around sharp lines and details with a textured and lit glow around them. It also helped me learn other functions of the software, like with this icon - to be used as a target or loading animation.
